an update.

we had our first appointment at childrens since the feeding tube.
here is what we learned...
- she weighs 9pounds 12.5ounces, which is about an ounce a day gain since she was discharged from the hospital.
- her liver specialiast and dietitian seemed to be happy with this progress.
- we are able to continue on with the plan that we set with our pediatrician... no tube feeds during the day and an increased rate per hour at night (left the hospital at 25ml/hour and she is now at 30ml/hour), as she can handle it. this is HUGE. much less overwhelming for me during the day... i will keep my sanity for now.
- she is currently at 31ml/hour at night and their goal is 35ml/hour. we will be gradually making the 5ml/hour increase over the next few weeks. we want to control the vomiting and make sure she can tolerate the new amounts.
- we discussed her vomiting... it is happening 1-3 times a day. this is the WORST part. laundry, cleaning up the mess, extra baths, and outfit changes for us. terrible... especially at 2am. we are going to take volume increases slow and back off the rate in the mornings a bit.
- no labs today.
- no changes to her current medications.
- no change in the the overall state of her liver.
- and finally we discussed her need of a transplant. her doctor explained what goes into making the decision and how her "scores" will affect her wait time on the list. currently she is not sick enough for the list (thank goodness), but she will most likely be ready before her first birthday.

so overall it was a good appointment.

today.

Millie and I had a busy day... a pediatrician appointment, lunch with Katie to finalize wedding decoration details, a Brandon Heath concert at Young Life, and finally a visit from a home healthcare nurse to put Millie's tube back in place. We received good news at the pediatrician... she weighs 9pounds 10ounces! That is a 5ounce gain in 5 days! It is especially good, because she gained this amount with our plan of only doing tube feeds at night... and skipping the crazy volumes & schedule during the day. Our pediatrician is happy, but we have to wait and see if her liver specialist is impressed on Thursday. Our hope is that we can continue to do the plan we set in place with Dr. Kiley, so that we can keep our/my sanity during the day.

she is a little celebrity at young life.
she was held by g's coworkers the entire time...
which means mama enjoyed the concert even more!

happy & playful pretube...

worn out & asleep posttube.
she cries so much that it wears her out.
she fell asleep at 6:30pm and is still sleeping now... i think she it out for the night.

an update.

her new naptime spot.
in the swing (thanks melissa!)... in the guest bathroom.
no lights and no sounds.
i now have a morning napping baby!

we had a weight check at millies pediatrician this afternoon.
and we cried out for help.
this needs to be a bit less stressful.

heres how its going...
- the tube has come out every other day since it was first put in. not awesome.
- they want to put boards on her arms so she cant bend her elbows... to prevent her from messing with and removing the tube. we never see her mess with the tube. not awesome.
- she has thrown up twice a day, every day since the tube was first put in. terrible.
- tube feeding through the day makes it nearly impossible to have any type of social life. i will go crazy.
- we met with our pediatrician today about a plan to go forward with... because this one doesnt seem quite right. the nurses at childrens werent even able to make it work in the hospital, how are we supposed to figure it out? the hours in a day and the needed volumes dont seem to match up for a baby with such a little stomach. our plan is to stop tube feeding during the day and push a higher ml/hour at night. we shall see how it goes.
- and she weighed 9pounds 6ounces today, so they are not worried about the volumes or frequency that she is throwing up. it just remains a pain for us.

a tie.

i made this tie necklace to wear for the fathers day cookout.
i love ties and i often wish i could wear them regularly...
now i can. it is a bit obnoxious, but i think it is cute!
i found inspiration from this blogpost... and made it a bit simpler.
no chain. no ruffle. just the tie.
it took me about ten minutes of hand sewing. simple.

four months.

millies fourth month...
- still wearing newborn diapers. still wanting to switch to cloth.
- she is wearing mostly 0-3month clothes... newborn pants still fit her well.
- she had her third stay at childrens.
- she has been put on a feeding tube to help her gain weight. we still use the same special formula concoction with the feeding tube.
-she is now getting 9 doses of medicines & vitamins a day.
- she is smiling at everyone and we heard her first giggles.
- she is grabbing & holding on to some of her toys and her activity gym.
- she is sleeping through the night because of the constant drip of the feeding tube... it runs for 10hours.
- i can almost always get her to smile for the camera.
- she loves having her picture taken.
- her head is still a bit wobbly... but her head control is getting much better!
- no signs of rolling over yet.
- she weighs a little over 9pounds.
- she is the most prayed for little girl I know.
