finding our indiana home.

we began our search looking at existing homes with our realtor... this house had a great yard & main level, but the upstairs & basement needed some work- and it was a bit more than we wanted to spend. we didn't find any other existing homes that were perfect or near perfect for us- most of them were in a location/elementary school area that we didn't like.
we decided to meet with a builder that i've known about & liked for awhile... i love the style/look of their houses & the standard upgrades that are included. we were even excited to hear that they have lots available in one of our desired neighborhoods... but after walking the lots, we decided that it wasn't going to work- the lots were terrible. and the other neighborhoods with lots available are not where we want to live... we were bummed.
a few days later we saw a listing come up on the mls site for a few homes (from a different builder than before) that are close to being finished in a neighborhood that we kind of liked. we walked through the houses with our realtor, and really liked one of the layouts. we didn't like the exterior colors and some of the design decisions inside, but we loved the idea that we could have a brand new home in about a month. after walking through it with our parents, we decided to talk with the builder about building the same house on another lot in the neighborhood. they offered to make this house (including the upgrades they included) for the same price that this one was listed for... works for us! we decided that it is worth it to live with my parents for a few more months to get a house with all of our design decisions.
this front door was on the house next door & i love it- i'm planning to have it at our house. / the living room. / the view from this house- we really debated on the lot that we wanted... backing up the corn field with a smaller yard or backing up to a neighbor with a huge yard. we chose the huge yard.
three panel doors... which i love. / the kitchen has an island & pendant lights above it! / sweet caroline.
the dining room. / the front room/office. / and the entry spot from the garage... next to a giant walk-in pantry.
two rooms in the basement plus a full bathroom & two storage rooms.
and there are four bedrooms & 2 bathrooms upstairs... so excited for all of the space!

we met with the builder to write up an offer... working with what the house had & adding a few more upgrades that we wanted. he felt like we could get all that we wanted for the asking price of the one that is almost done being built... and a few days later we found out that the offer was accepted. we should have a house by mid-december!
i'm still missing our life in colorado like crazy, but i'm excited about this house!

nursemaid's elbow.

ER visit #3 for Millie... she is the reason that we need great health insurance. Luckily this one was very quick, and nothing serious. Millie & G were dancing and she fell to floor, so he pulled her up by one arm... she immediately said that her arm hurt & started crying pretty hard. We chilled for a bit, and she actually fell asleep while I was holding her. I started poking around & lifted her arm a bit while she was asleep to see if the pain bugged her... she woke up & said that it hurt a lot when her arm moved. She pointed to her wrist when we asked where it hurt, and freaked out anytime we slightly moved her or her arm. We decided that we needed to take her somewhere... and of course the urgents cares closed at 8pm and it was 8:15- thankfully we still have Young Life insurance through the end of the month! We got to the ER quickly and had a very short wait... after explaining the situation to the doctor, she knew right away what it was- nursemaid's elbow. It's common in kids, and can happen when they are swung or pulled by their arms or even when they are hanging from monkey bars. She quickly fixed it, and within a minute Millie could move her arm pain-free. The doctor said that there is now an increased chance of it happening again since it has happened once... and showed us how to fix it ourselves. I'm hoping we never need to- please don't swing our kid around if you are hanging out with her. After the doctor fixed her elbow, she took Millie to get some stickers and then we were free to go after a little paperwork. Millie was back to her spunky self when we left, and said "that was fun!" when we got back to my parents' house... crazy girl.

millie's preschool open house.

millie will be starting preschool in less than 2weeks! g's mom recommended this preschool (called busy day) for her- it has a great reputation in lafayette, and some of her grandma friends loved it for their grandkids. she will be going tuesdays & thursdays from 12:30 to 3- i think she is going to love it! we met her teachers tonight & toured the little house... millie's favorite part- the pretend laundry. i'm excited to see how much she learns & changes this year! and my favorite thing about this school is that each week has a theme. love that! millie's first turn to bring snack is during western week... hmm, time to search pinterest for a clever idea!

forty-two months.

millie's forty-second month...
- she is wearing 3T clothes & size7 shoes.
- since arriving in indiana, she's had less than 5 accidents and has gone a whole week accident free.
- she is no longer taking naps. it's been an easy transition for her, but hard for mama- i miss having a break! it has made bedtime easier... she still has some battles with us over going to bed, but she goes to sleep quickly once we turn off the lights. i'm hoping that we can start having a quiet time in the afternoon- alone time in her room, so i can have a little break.
- she asked us to give caroline back... "i don't want to be a big sister anymore." i think the past few months of change & transition have finally caught up to her- she's been a bit more emotional & in need of more attention over the past few weeks. overall, though, she's been awesome with caroline.
- while playing with g, she said that she needed to stop to feed her baby... she sat down, lifted her shirt, and put her doll to her belly. i wondered how long it would take for her to "nurse" her baby.
- whenever she does something wrong or spills something or hurts me, she says "i'm so sorry, mama." and looks down at the floor- it's hard to punish her. and then asks if i'll forgive her.
- "that's so wonderful!"
- while riding around in her cozy coupe, she said that had the directions in her phone & needed to go to warmit to pick up her photos. and then to target for milk, because milk's on sale.
- she moved from colorado to indiana... and can find them both on a map.
- she jumped in giant puddles for the first time.
- she got pink princess cowboy boots.
- her favorite things to play right now are- barbies (she found mine in the garage), playdoh (a new princess set), and kitchen/play food.
- and she misses her friends a lot.
