camping.

not the best way to be welcomed to your camping spot... rain for the first hour and a stage two fire ban that just went in to affect 2days ago- meaning no campfires, not even in a contained spot. huge bummer since we brought hot dogs & smores for dinner... and campfires are the best part of camping! but we decided to stay because we got the last creek side spot at the crags campground, where i have been wanting to go for a few years, and we had already packed up & made the drive. and we like making memories of course!
during breaks in the rain, g was able to get the tent set-up... and during the last good rainfall before it stopped for the night, g blew up our air mattress that we borrowed from his parents. it only has a plug-in, no batteries. camping fail. and it ended up being terrible to sleep on. we need to just stick to our sleeping pads.
it was super chilly after the rain, but millie didn't mind one bit. she was so wilderness girl in her keens... loving the freedom to explore and play with her toys. and of course her little people camping set made the trip.
she LOVED this bridge. it was great to see her be so brave about a new environment... unafraid of uneven surfaces. and then we walked along the creek which ended with her stepping in the freezing cold water... which ended up meaning an outfit change, complete with throwing up from being so upset from being cold. goodbye warm fleece jacket, two pairs of pants, and her keens... which left one pair of pants (pajamas), one pair of shoes, and a few different tanks, l/s shirts, & s/s shirts. her outfit was a bit crazy and not nearly as warm, but it worked. lesson learned. my child will most likely throw up in any situation, and i need to be overly prepared with lots of options. at least her hat survived.
after the outfit change, we took a quick hike up the crags trail. within a few steps, i remembered how much i hate hiking, but we walked for about 20minutes before turning around for dinner.
millie's favorite part of outside activity is getting to drink from g's water backpack. if i was her, my favorite part would be that she rarely uses any energy in our outside activities. i want a carrier. and on the way down she took her nap for the day.
no campfire equals dinner at the closest restaurant to the campground... this one ended up having really good pizza. and we caught a photo at the sign on our drive back to camp!
more exploring after dinner, and then millie and i were in the tent by around 9 to stay warm... its hard without a fire! and kinda boring... g decided to hang out in the car & read a book. millie fell asleep around 10 after playing a few games on my phone. because of her clothes situation, i was worried to have her sleep on her own without a super warm sleeping bag, so her & i shared a sleeping bag on the air mattress. it ended up being horrible because the air mattress wasn't firm and she keeping rolling over to me... she was sleeping soundly and i was beyond frustrated. we then tried moving her to the sleep pads with one of the big sleeping bags, and g & i tried the air mattress together. horrible! i was now the light one rolling to g. so i ended up on the sleeping pads with millie in one sleeping bag, and g stayed on the air mattress- he ended up basically sleeping on the ground by morning. stupid air mattress. g & i slept poorly, but millie slept 11hours- we all woke up at 9!
morning. the sun was great, but it was still pretty chilly in the trees.
much prettier than when we arrived the day before!
i'm happy we stuck it out... millie loved it, and we now have a few more things on our "don't forget for camping" list and a mental note to not mess with air mattresses. not worth it.

a shower for sarah and jude.

we decided on a lego theme for jude's lego-loving daddy.
thanks to steve for the duplo creations!
i loved all the primary colors... it made it so easy to find pieces that i already owned for decorations. no money spent for this shower! that is so rare for me and the parties i plan. another thing i loved- finding free printables! i found this lego man on a blog and gave him a new shirt to make him ready for a baby shower & not a birthday party. thanks pinterest.
i adjusted a 'happy birthday' free printable banner... and made it 'wishing you a happy birth!' perfect! and we had the table set up for thank you card creating. we each made a few for sarah so that she has a stack of pretty handmade cards to send out after jude is born for meals or gifts. it was such a great idea carey!
another free printable turned into a banner. the lego bumps. and i also paper-crafted a little lego man for jude's room.
brunch & the perfect dress for a lego baby shower.
we are so excited for sarah... she will soon join the mama of two club!
we cant wait to meet him!

summer evenings.

we've been spending our evenings outside... making the most of our tiny backporch and playing until the last minutes before bathtime & then bed. if it happens to be on our designated watering day, then we wash cars or play in the sprinklers. and if isnt our day, then we take walks and play at the neighborhood park. i really like summer.

baby mack.

the newest member of the sonntag family arrived while we were home in indiana... we finally made it over to meet him & to bring big sister evelyn a special treat. he is super cute!

america the beautiful park.

millie's dance studio is close to downtown, so im always trying to find new & exciting things to try out downtown... and it usually means lunch with g too! i decided to take millie to america the beautiful park this morning to check out the fountain. ive heard that its a fun place for kids to play in water. as we were getting out of the car, i heard someone yell my name & turned to see lori unloading her car! and penny pulled up within minutes too with her littles! it turned out to be so much fun... i loved catching up with lori & penny, and millie loved playing in the water with friends. we will definitely be back before summer ends.

dance.

she refuses to sit & wait on the balance beam, so she is always at the end of the line.

ten years since jhs.

dressed up for our 6month anniversary dinner / in our first edition christmas outfits with bd.
senior year spring break in florida / first edition trip to nyc / the mullet wig.
our senior year fall formal / my best friend angela / a first edition competition- first place champions.
and one of my senior photos.
i happened to have all of these photos scanned into my computer already... all others from my high school years are neatly & creatively tucked away in scrapbooks. i recently looked through all of them, and loved getting to see & remember so many awesome years of memories. i liked high school. i cant believe it has been 10years!

a long weekend in indiana.

our first trip without a stroller... and with all carry-on luggage. traveling with g makes everything so much easier!
the hardin wedding rehearsal... followed by an unusual evening that ended with drinks at a dive bar & lots of laughter.
our reason for flying home last minute... ryan hardin's wedding! he let us know 6weeks ago that he was getting married & that he wanted g to be an usher. we debated a few options, including millie & i staying home, but i didnt want to miss time with our college friends! im so happy that we could make it work!
this is probably our last college friend wedding... ill miss the reunions, but not the flight costs!
our 10year high school reunion was saturday night... it was perfect timing for us to be able to attend! we werent sure what to expect from it, but after a few drinks each we were super chatty & enjoyed it.
with my childhood best friend. we played barbies together until 8th grade... it was our little secret.
bd. we've been best friends for over 10years.
after dinner with our families to celebrate our anniversary, we flew home sunday evening. the plane had two seats to a row, which meant that mama got to read magazines during the flight! it was a nice treat.
home sweet home.
what a great weekend!
millie was happy staying with her grandparents all weekend, and g & i were happy to have some alone time together. chats during long drives and time with friends. it happened to be our anniversary weekend, and the best gift possible was time alone together! we needed it.
