a trip to the ER.

we had a crazy evening...

g ate a chocolate chip cookie with walnuts at kgroup, and within minutes he was having an allergic reaction to the walnuts. what a surprise... he didnt know that he had any food allergies! it progressed quick enough that we wanted to get to the ER quickly to make sure nothing serious happened with his airway or breathing. we left millie with our friends and headed to a nearby hospital. he went through checkin & triage, and then they led us back to a room. he had his blood taken and an IV placed, and then he met with a doctor. the doctor was surprised to hear that g didnt think that he had ever eaten a walnut... he obviously doesnt know my husband and his picky eating! it was obvious to all that the reaction was pretty bad... he was bright red, had hives on his arms & neck, his lips were swollen, and his eyes were bloodshot. he was feeling dizzy & faint. luckily his breathing wasnt impaired... his tongue & lips felt swollen and his throat felt itchy, but he could breathe fine. the doctor had him put on an IV with a few medications, including benadryl, and he also gave him a shot of epinephrine. g was asleep within minutes. i left to get dinner while he slept, and when i returned he was already looking much better from the medications. after about 4hours at the ER, the doctor came back in to meet with g about what to do next with this allergy... he suggested meeting with an allergist to see if other tree nuts would cause the same reaction & he also prescribed an EPI pen for any future reactions. here's hoping we never need to use it! now we know that walnuts are huge no. and a huge thanks to sarah & caleb for keeping millie at their house after kgroup ended! she loved hanging out with them & ella... she was so hyper in the car on our drive home from her fun evening! and went to sleep perfectly when we got home.
